Muscle Imbalance Therapy and Pain Management

Sorry for the two threads in one.

I have a slipped disc and my physio doesn't believe in muscle imbalance therapy / rehabilitation. I'm trying to look for ways other than keeping good posture and exercising regularly, to keep the sciatic from flaring up again. I'm on to my fourth month of pain and discomfort and really, really don't want to go through this again in a hurry.

Also my doctor here in Hong Kong either is reluctanat to prescribe medication (and when she does only 5 days worth) so I have to make frequent painful journeys and beg for medication. Or she is bewildered when I tell her that my legs have swollen up (possible side effects of the medication.) So the question is, do you know any good doctors here or do you recommend visiting a pain management clinic or know of one?

Help!

May be you should consult some professional acupuncturist who can really deal with sciatic issue.

Thanks for your advice!

Actually I did something even better... I organised an MRI scan (through my doctor) who suddenly took me seriously and referred me on to an orthopaedic specialist. Wow! I wish I'd got referred three months sooner because apparently going to the physio once a week is not enough. I'm now going 3 to 4 times a week. He also signed me off on sick leave immediately for a month and has prescribed me different anti-inflammatoies and proper strong pain killers. Why I didn't do this earlier? Well I guess there's a lesson to be learned. GPs are just that "general" practioners. They are "jack of all trades and master of none" meaning they don't know anything about backs. AND as a parting shot she admitted that the anti-inflammatoies I'd been prescribed by her could cause swelling of the legs - this after I mentioned twice about my legs being swollen.... Whereas my lovely specialist asks me continually if I'm having any side effects.

So the moral of this story is - be more pro-active, don't wait for your doctor to do it!

Yes Being pro-active is the spice of life, Acupuncure and Chirpactitioner visits will be just that, you cannot keep taking pain killers becuase medical drugs have side affects and than soon you'll be looking for more medications to overcome those side affects and so on. Remember the side affects are many a times different in individuals.

I hope you recover
