Yep, another Lasik question! I've been through all the threads on this but since they are quite old now I'd like to hear more about peoples recent experience with doctors. I've done some research and would like opinions about Hong Kong Laser Eye Centre, Hong Kong Eye Day Surgery and The Eye Institute of Hong Kong. Thanks!

Went to HK Laser Eye Centre and have no complaints. Thought they were thorough and efficient. If you go to their seminar, you get $2000 off the price. If you can't speak Chinese, then they should deduct $2000 anyway, as the seminar is Cantonese-speaking.

They say on their site that they are doing a promotion of IntraLasik for $20,000 for both eyes. Seems reasonable. Which Dr. did you have Slammy? Thanks!

I think my doctor's name was Thomas Cheung but that could be an entire guess on my part. I did my eyes at the beginning of 2007. Regarding the price of $20K, I think that you can also get the $2,000 off from that price, so should be $18,000?
They do so many eyes so you know that these doctors have had a lot of practise. I think it's fine no matter which doctor you choose. The procedure is so quick!

i just had mine done on friday. they were very quick and professional. it was $17500 because they also deduct $500 for the examination fee.
the doctor i didn't really like cause i found his attitude to be very robotic! i can understand since he does so many cases a day, but i was just not too pleased about that. however, that's not something that will affect the outcome. Like Slammy said, they've done so many cases and their centre's been running for 11-12 years, so if it's not good, they would've closed down right?

Since getting my eyes done, I can't even remember the days when I had to fumble around for my glasses, take all the contact solution on holiday with me, have dry eyes, or worry about losing my lenses etc etc. It took a few months for the eyes to heal, where I would notice that sometimes the vision wouldn't be perfect in one or the other eye, and using the eye drops initially. But now, I'm like someone who never had to wear glasses EVER!
One of the best things I've ever done. :-)

i agree! even though my vision is still foggy. it's so much more convenient already! espeically when the baby wakes up in the middle of the night, i won't have to search for my glasses!

Well it's been a month now since surgery and all is great. I can see! The procedure itself is not fun but all the staff were really nice and caring, and it was all worth it. After nearly 30 years of glasses/contacts I am free! My eyes were pretty bad (900+ and 600+) and so it has been an enormous change to my life.

the procedure though not painful is highly uncomfortable. it's like feeling your eyes being extremely irritated like you poured some soap into your eyes.
everyone's reactions and sensitivity is different. my eyes are really sensitive so my tears washed away a lot of the anethesia during the procedure, so hence i felt so much discomfort.
i've talked to other people during the procedure and they didin't feel much like i felt. only when they got home when all the meds wore off, they felt uncomfortable.
but even given all that, the discomfort went away pretty quickly. the procedure was in the morning around 10 am and by 4 pm, the discomfort was nearly all gone. my eyes felt tired, like i didn't want to open them, but they didn't feel uncomfortable liek before.
that was my experience.

There is a lot of pressure on the eye and everything happens quite fast and a little rough during the procedure. That said everything was over and done in a matter of minutes. I just got a little scared that's all!
Upon leaving and returning home you are wearing protective eye plates, but you can pretty much see, though blurry. The blurriness, for me, took a few weeks to be completely cleared. Everyday was progress. There was no pain or discomfort during that time. You are given eye drops to help with the healing.
Right now I see perfect and sometimes think I still wear contacts! Very strange at bedtime when I don't need to remove contacts or glasses!!
As I said despite the experience at surgery I have no regrets. I know everyone's experience will be different, so I can't speak for everyone.
