Symptoms:

Vertigo and dizziness

■Spinning or whirling sensation; an illusion of movement of self or the world (vertigo)

■Lightheaded, floating, or rocking sensation (dizziness)

■Sensation of being heavily weighted or pulled in one direction

Balance and spatial orientation causing Anxiety, panic - Nausea and sever vomiting that goes on for hours. "Hangover" or "seasick" feeling in the head like Motion sickness. Headaches and fatigue.

Can anyone recommend a specialist for this in Hong Kong and any self help home care recommendations?

More specifically this is Labyrinthitis and Vestibular Neuritis

Labyrinthitis and vestibular neuritis are disorders resulting from an infection that inflames the inner ear or the vestibulo-cochlear nerve (the eighth cranial nerve), which connects the inner ear to the brain. Vertigo, dizziness, and difficulties with balance, vision, or hearing may result.

I need a specialist in HK Please :-)

The most important thing regarding your symptoms is whether they are

ACUTE ( just happen recently) or CHRONIC ( always been having it !!!even on and off).

The second important thing is do you have any blackouts or feeling week or headache? cos Not all dizziness is caused by labyrinthitis or vestibular neuritis though.

Can pm me if you wish

Thanks for this - its just started 3 weeks ago the first attack came on suddenly - dizzy and vomiting (initially thought I had food poisoning) I required ambulance assistance - the second was also acute and happened a week ago - I am taking anti nausea medication.

Have you seen your own Doctor, he should just be able to give you a course of medicine to hopefully clear it up, then if symptoms persist ask him to refer you to a specialist.

Paneristi,

I do not wish to alarm you but Several years ago I suddenly started having similar symptoms including a heaviness on the right side of my head, lack of balance and co-ordination, a feeling of fullness, gradual deafness in right ear, dizziness and tiredness. I was diagnosed with a vestibular schwonma (sorry spelling not right) or more commonly known as an acoustic neuroma; a rare benign tumour. I suggest you get a 2nd opinion, I needed to have an MRI scan to diagnose, it is worth checking out if concerned as many doctors have never heard of this particular condition as it is so rare. Good luck.

The thread is still ongoing! Paneristi symptoms should have cleared up a bit by now , if not I agreed should go for some imaging scan. As for highdesertnow, it sounds highly positional-related.

FYI antinausea pill is different from anti-vertigo pills, both in terms of efficacy and of cos, price.

Hi - my mum seems to be experiencing this. Started a few weeks ago, when she wakes up she feels dizzy and the room is spinning. It was like that for about 5 days and then we went on vacation for two weeks - and she didn't have any symptoms on vacation. Then we came back and she went swimming and then it came back again.

Anyone have any suggestions or referrals? I was considering just taking her to hospital emergency and see if they can scan her head!
