Please aware that the number of lasik patients as said by Stephen Slade of US is 17 million. By different experience level and practice of doctors, there must some patients not satisfy with the lasik. Basically, the discrepancy from the doctor's promise is the source of dissatisfaction. They also grow in numbers and as a result the pressure is on the issue of lasik, not just safety but other issues that might be political.
Bear in mind that lasik is not a new technology, if lasik is not good and not safe, why so many patients have it done. Additionally, like other general surgery, patients are all informed of risks like halos and no perfect results. The good news is the lasik skills are improving like a resurgence of PRK, older technolgy before lasik. I am not a doctor and cannot represent any association as well, I know some ophthalmologist are good in lasik, like Dr. Joseph Kam, who is pioneered in the lasik in Hong Kong and experience for more than 20 years, you may find his information in eye123.com.hk, hope it can help to smoothen your concerns on lasik!
