Once cosmetic is opened - like blusher, eye shadow, lipstick - how long do they last? I bought a Chanel eye shadow this week and the sales girl told me that it should only last for 1.5 years after it is opened. But I've been told by other brand sales girls that their respective products last btw 2 to 5 years. So, does the expiry date after opening go by brand or by products (as in lipstick may have shorter life than eye shadow, etc)

Yea only around 1 year
For those cosmetics in liquid form, they can serve as a good bacteria bed

BTW most powder forms can last for even up to 2 years provided you store them away from the bathroom...liquid eyeliners, mascara please chuck them after 3 months if they start to smell like alcohol...always remember that most cosmetics will survive if you apply them with a make-up brush and not your hands...make-up brushes should be cleaned once a week...normally with soap and warm water
