I just recently moved to HK, and I have seen way too much mold for my liking. We are in a short term place, so I hope it s only this apartment.

does anyone have health problems due to the mold in this often super humid climate and what do you do to keep it in check in your place?

Mold is a constant problem in HK. Buy the disposible dehumifiers from the supermarket and place in your wardrobes. You can also ask your landlord for a large dehumifier and use it to prevent mold growing on your walls/ceiling/furniture etc. If they say "just run your airconditioner" tell them it is not working and you need a really dehumifier. Otherwise get a cheap secondhand one off this site.

Any place you go to in HK will have mold, or the potention for mold. It is much easier to prevent it, than it is to get rid of it. One you have it on your wall etc, it is time to move or repaint.

honestly, your place has serious circulation problems if your seeing mold now...humidity ranges from 30-80% this time fo year, usually until around march. THEN you'll see the dripping ceilings as the warm moist air returns to the still cold buildings. that'll last for about a month while the building warms up to the ambient temp. by May the rel humidity will climb into the 90s and remain there till next november...THAT is the time you have to worry about...now, just open the windows for a few hrs a day (even though it s cold out) to remove the stale air...
