Hi,there. I really need to have my ears cleaned ( ear wax removal) before my audiologist gets an ear mould fixed for my hearing-aid.

Though, expense wouldn't be a concern to me, i'd not want to spend over 1000 just to get the waxes removed ( heard it costs around 1000 and above ) . Could anyone suggest me where to go ???

I'd prefer ENT dr's based in Central.

Thanks . :)

I usually go to Dr. Derek Chan at Takshing House. Even though he is a surgeon, he does my ears for me using the simplest of techniques (irrigation). His rationale is that the wax builds up over a long period of time, and in the process small hairs get trapped in the wax. If one uses mechanical devices and/or suction apparatus, these can pull on the wax as well as the hairs causing pain and even abrasions. He simply flushes the wax out bit by bit using a big syringe without a needle. My first visit took him more than 30 minutes to get both my ears cleansed but it cost me less than $1k as far as I could remember.

I go to Dr. Susan's nurse at 36 Queen's road. She clears up my ears using an ear decompression technique. Cost me around $600.

If you don't have a lot of wax, you can get drops at the chemist to soften what is in there, without the need for ear irrigation, in Uk they used to be called Earex drops, don't know if they have the same brand here, but the pharmacist will advise what is available.
