It seems like I am ALWAYS sick! I moved to Hong Kong about a year ago and 6 months in, I've gotten this terrible chest congestion that produces green phlegm. Docs keep telling me it's typical for people who move here to develop this and it eventually gets better. Is this true?? I'm so sick of being sick! How do I know I'm not developing some sort of permanent lung ailment?? Is this happening to anyone else and how do I get better??

Your case can be explained and treated with Chinese medicine or acupuncture. If you are not repulsive about alternative medicine, you are welcome to contact me for some free advice.

Pollution will exuberate the existing lung issue, it is only a secondary factor for a pathogenic condition. Otherwise, all residents should develop some signs. People with good immunity can handle the harsh environment better.
The poster is definitely in a pathogenic condition that can be explained according to Chinese medical theories.

" ... how do I get better??"
Taking MEGA-DOSAGES of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) has been known to cure over 30 major diseases http://www.doctoryourself.com/vitaminc.html . It would certainly have no problem strengthening your immune system so that you can overcome your frequent chest colds. It's safe, effective, inexpensive, and -- most importantly -- something you can self administer. No need to see a doctor or other health professional.
If you doubt the claims of effectiveness of MEGA-DOSAGES of vitamin C, have a look at what it did to this poor guy who was just hours away from death ..... http://www.3news.co.nz/Living-Proof/tabid/371/articleID/171328/Default.aspx .
Keep in mind that the 3 keys to success of using vitamin C orally is: (1) MASSIVE DOSAGES (take it to bowel tolerance), (2) frequency (hourly or bi-hourly), and (3) duration. Using this formula, relief can be expected in 4-48 hours. This won't work if you take just a little once or twice a day.
Here's some references to start your research .....

Check your vitamin D status as well. Get your doctor to do a 25(OH)D blood test.

Christeve> This is an excellent idea! I don't know if you are aware of it but in the U.S. there are private labs that offer blood testing services without the need of a doctor's input (ex: http://www.zrtlab.com/order-a-test-online/vmchk.html ). Perhaps there's something similar in Hong Kong? Why see a doctor for ordering tests when you can do that yourself?

exyogi totally has it right about taking mega doses of Vitamin C.
Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant and helps rid the lungs and body of pollution and toxins. It's perhaps best known for its ability to strengthen the immune system.
But this potent nutrient also has many other important roles that control significant aspects of our health.
When we get enough in our diets, vitamin C helps detoxify our bodies, promotes healing of all of our cells, and allows us to better deal with stress. It also supports the good bacteria in our gut, destroys detrimental bacteria and viruses, neutralizes harmful free radicals, removes heavy metals, protects us from pollution, and much more.
I highly recommend taking 2 Camu Camu tablets (A superfood containing the hightest source of Vitamin C available in natural form) morning and night and some probiotics as well, another potent medicine that strengthens the gut and immune system and viruses and pathogens.
