Hi,
I may have to have dental implants... 2 of my teeth need excretion. I wanted to know, I’m I going to go with out couple teeth for a long time? I would be so embarrassed to go to work with no front teeth. Does the dentist put temporary teeth till I get the permanent ones?
Thanks

Hi,
I have had some implanted teeth, they will take a full xray of your mouth, to look at the bone structure. Next step they will take out the teeth, if the bone structure is good, they may put the titanium root/stalk in at the time of extraction, if the bone structure is not too good, or there is infection, they will let this area heal first.
During the time you are toothless, many dentists offer to put in a temporary denture on a bridge.
Also if the bone in the jaw is not strong enough for implants, they may put in extra bone, or a sinus lift if needed, the bone has to be strong or strengthened to hold the implant.
After the implant is done, the gum is stitched, antibiotics and painkillers given, the stitches are usually removed two weeks later, after this you can still wear the temporary teeth/ bridge.
Normally 6 months after the titanium is put in they can then add the new teeth on top of the Titanium 'root'.
Although it all seems complicated, and quite a lot of work, it is not a particularly painfull process with a good dentist.
When I needed implants I at first thought of going to Thailand, but it would have involved a few trips anyway, plus as I did have some complication because I have gum disease I was able to get back to the dentist quite easily in HK.
It is well worth the effort, and they will make sure you can smile in between without embarrassment.
