There are many books about paleo diet.
But I am looking for real life experiences. Does anyone is succeeding to run such lifestyle in HKG? with kids (pre-teens)? with a busy work life implying lunches with clients and travels? being a women mid 40y.
How is your experience with food supplements and organic meat and food in such an expensive place like HKG?
I am curious to know what I should watch for to avoid failing? And what means failure? is there a downside to even try?

Hi Minono,
Paleo lifestyle is definitely doable wherever you are. My paleo journey started November 2012, it's a long journey of trials and errors but eventually I found the perfect formula for myself. I have to say that I am not 100% paleo at all times though.
Re organic meat price - I agree it is expensive but if you know where and what to look.
Beef/ Lamb - New Zealand and Australia at Park 'n Shop - organic and grass-fed.
Pork/ Chicken/ Eggs - Free Range if possible, otherwise hormones-free is good enough.
Cold Cuts/ Sausages - I usually avoid them since they're usually made with bread crumbs or wheat.
Vegetables - organic if possible, it's expensive but worth it.
Supplements - I am 28 yo women, do sports everyday so I take magnesium, Vitamin B complex and fish oil (also to relieve PMS).
Dairy - if you don't have lactose intolerance, get aged cheese and I usually buy sheep's/ goat's milk cheese since they're usually grass-fed. Just be careful cow's milk is usually full of hormones.
I have to be honest that eating paleo was quite a hassle at first due to all the cooking, but a year later it has become a lot more convenient and money saving to cook at home instead of eating out, especially the price of eating out in Hong Kong is getting higher and quality poorer.
I can get two pieces of Australian rib eye (about 8oz each) at supermarket for less than $70, lovely organic asparagus at Citysuper for less than $30. Of course if you eat tuber it might cost another $20 for a few potatoes, so dinner is about $100-$120 for two. It might still be expensive for some household, but for couple who used to eat out all the time, it's a money-saving deal!
Another thing you can do is to buy a big roast joint from local butcher and freeze it until necessary.
Bear in mind that it's your lifestyle CHOICE and do NOT restrict your food choices. You might feel tired and crave carbs when you cut out sugar in the first week or two, it is normal, you can replace sugar with natural carbs such as yam, sweet potato, etc. The hardest part could be peer pressure because your friends are constantly shocked that you don't eat 'carbs (meant pasta and bread for them)', don't give in.
There is no downside of trying and I totally recommend this lifestyle change. My own opinion is don't be too anal about being 'PALEO', it is more important to find the right foods that nourish your body and make you feel great! You can PM me or follow this thread if you have more questions.
