My son has struggled with depression since last year. He consulted a clinical psychologist at home last year and later saw an alternative medicine healer. My son needs to sit for his exams in a month's time but, because of his health issues, needs more time to complete his course. His university allows postponement of exams in circumstances such as this but he needs a certificate from a registered medical practitioner. I now learn that the psychologist treated him in a private capacity at home and is therefore unable to issue a certificate. We have been offered a referral but I'm still waiting for this. As time is tight and my son needs to meet deadlines, this is worrying and is starting to stress him.
Does anyone have any recommendation who can be consulted? Should my son see a psychologist or psychiatrist - I'm not clear on this. Any idea about charges?
My son is willing to be examined in order to enable the dr to use professional judgement before writing the certificate
Thank you for your advice

Based on what you said, I would recommend Sharmeen Shroff a psychologist at Holistic Central Medical. From what I recall, she charges $1,800 but you'll have to call them to confirm.

Thank you for this. The referral came through and my son saw a dr yesterday. This has been a relief. My son returns next week for a follow-up consultation and the cert.
I will take down this contact for future reference.
