Type 1 Diabetes in HK

Hi all,

I'm a healthy, recently diagnosed T1 diabetic, insulin dependent.

I've just been offered a job after a successful internship and existing medical conditions aren't included in the private healthcare offered.

I'm struggling to find people to talk to and advise how is best to progress! I need two types of insulin, glucose monitoring strips and needles to keep things managed, and want to ensure I'm organised before I sign the contract.

I'm confident I manage my levels well, but retina scans and HBA1C blood tests a couple of times a year would put my - and more importantly my Mum's - mind at ease!

Any advice would be of real help.

Sorry to hear that you suffer from diabetic, besides taking medicine, I suggest you to change your life style such as exercise frequency and eating habit to regain your health.
I also suggest you to visit TCM Doctor since it has lots of formula that help us rebuild our body health. I have been studying TCM materials and blog for long and found it is helpful especially, for women. However, beware of some local TCM cannot speak English or communicate with Expat.
I know one in Central named Veroncia Hoi, she is experienced and for sure, able to communicate clearly for what and why we need TCM for our own problem. Hope it help.

I suggest you get a referal letter to the Diabetic Clinic at {say} Queen Mary Hospital.

It takes quite some time to actually get an appointment set up.

In the meantime, the HK Gov't "Families Clinic" [For Civil Servants & their dependents] mostly handles my type 2 diabetic needs till I can finally get my primary diabetic healthcare transferred to QMH.

One caveat: You'll hang around for a loooong time waiting to be called at the appointed appointment time in Gov't hospitals - BUT save a bundle of loot there rather than hand it out masses of loot to any private practice!

Still waiting on your further comments here scottemm !
