SHOULDER SURGERY

ORIGINAL POST

I have been diagnosed with a Torn Tendon (DISTAL SUPRASPINATUS) in my shoulder. As it is a "FULL THICKNESS" tear, the recommendation is Arthroscopic surgery (to set anchor & sutures). I have been quoted HK$ 90K, including a one-night stay in hospital.

I am wondering if this is a reasonable recommendation / proposal, and would welcome any informed feedback.

Thanks.

If it needs to come out of your pocket then you might want to consider somewhere overseas. I have been to Bumrungrad in Bangkok for some procedures which are 50% of the cost on HK but with very impressive facilities. It may also be worth checking out hospitals in Singapore

had torn acl shoulder and had surgery done in hong kong. surgeon was excellent but slightly more expensive than what you said. it depends on which doctor/team you use, which hospital, class of room, etc. if you want to swap notes, PM me.
post surgery physio extremely important and must be included as part of total cost (insurance coverage, etc).
I find Thailand ok if it is a common injury but anything important I stick with Hong Kong/Singapore. you get what you pay for!

Thanks to all for sharing.

Provided MRI report to Bumrungrad. They quoted HKD 110,000 (Surgery + Anesthesia only), so even more expensive than Hong Kong.

Accordingly, will proceed with surgery in HK.

Yes. Also very surprised.

With all of the uncertainties and certain peripheral expenses, absolutely unappealing.

From my research, in Canada and the US, apparently cheaper & more routine operation - Performed in private clinics for approx HK$ 50-60K.
