My 2yr old son had his first ever febrile convulsion on Sunday. It is indeed a heartbreaking sight to see your child go thru that. His eyes were rolling upwards, his body was stiff and his face was pale.
His temp on Sat night was quite warm and we were assuming it was bec of tonsilits (which he usually gets after eating cold stuff) . we gave him paracetamol the next morning to lessen the temp. after 4 hrs, another dose was given but then he vomitted it out, later in Sun afternoon, he had the convulsion.
it is my first time experiencing this as well as my mom's. good thing was at the time my son had his convulsion, we had a friend who knew what to do as her son just had one a week ago.
my son is now in the hospital being observed by doctors.
he still has fevers on and off. he's been there for 3 days now.
any similar experiences with this?

Okay, here's the skinny on febrile seizures/convulsions
They occurs in childern 6 months to 6 years
They occurs because of the presence of a fever. Unrelated to how high the fever. Use to be thougt to be related to the speed of the rise of the fever
The seizure involves the entire body all at once (generalized)
Last for less than 5 minutes
No other underlying cause for the seizure (such as meningitis)
In the US, once we determine that it is a "febrile seizure", we send you home from the clinic/emergency room. If you are in the hospital for 3 days, either they are looking at something else or they are being extra careful. I know that for parents it is scary as can be, but for pediatricians...it's a yawner.
