Optical tests

Hi,

I am relatively new to living in HK and I'm wondering how you go about scheduling an eye test.

Is this something you can do through the public health system (I do not have private health insurance), or do you need to go to an optomestrist shop? If so, any reccommendations and an idea of how much this usually costs?

Try www.polyvision.com.hk in Wan Chai in Hopewell Center. Both my husband and I had tests done there, the best and most comprehensive ever. We have never had such detailed tests done anywhere in Europe. We paid HKD 400 each. Going to a glasses shop and having those few tests done for free in the shop simply pales away in comparison. Reserve about an hour, and plan not to do much afterwards as they put some eye drops into your eyes, and you cannot see clearly for a few hours. My husband had an optometrist who was qualified in Sweden so managed to speak to them in Swedish but they mostly educated in Europe or US.

I hope it helps.
