Wanted to get Lasik for my eyes. Have been reading only good reviews from this site, anyone has a horror story or bad experience with Lasik to tell? Wanted to see both sides before any decision.

I spoke to a laser treatrment clinic that was candid. They gave me the following info.
The treatment is relativley new so there are no studies on the long term effects. However fro the studies that have been done she gave me the following info.
The treatment is effective for about 10-15 yrs only(sometimes less) as our eyes change. It cannot be repeated.
The treatment is most effective for people who nee only small correction (short sighted have best results) .
The greater the need for correction, the less effective, and more shortlived the benefits. The efficacy is also more uncertain.
For myself, I will not have it done as there is no guarantee of success, and at 15 years max the benefits are only short term (in my life span).
If it was a car then sure. But I only got one set of peepers.

My husband, my relatives, my friends (About 10 people now) have done this surgery. They are all 100% if not 101% happy that they made that decision. From what I hear, Hong Kong Laser Eye Center (that's where my hubby did it too) is most professional, and they are the one with the LATEST Interalase FS60 laser machine. No "cutting" in your lens. So it's even better.
No side effects whatsoever in anyone I know. Except a much better lifestyle now. I think this laser surgery is MOST appreciated by those with really bad eyes... like my husband, he was 900 in both eyes for short sightedness. One friend is 700.....
They have seminars that are really informative twice a week.
I found the seminars very helpful, and you get a free eye exam to determine whether you are a possible client or not. Some people's lens in the eye is not "thick" enough, you cannot even do it if you wanted to.

Just had my eyes done at the Adventist hospital last week and they also have interlase machine. Really good job done and finally can throw away the glasses!

I had lasik done in Sydney about 5 years ago and it was also best money I spent. I was shortsighted, minus 4 in each eye and am now 20/20 in both. My surgeon has been performing eye laser treatment for years and is excellent. In his opinion my script was the preferred level for surgery and since I had no stigmatism, thick cornea, etc I was perfect candidate. What impressed me was his frankness throughout the intensive consultation as to my suitability for the treatment - if I did not satisfy strict criteria, he was not going to sell me the surgery! Lasik technology is constantly evolving and improving - back then I had my cornea cut, whereas now you don't. Should my eyes change, or my sight deteriorate I can get a top up done, no problem. My advice would be to research carefully the place and surgeons offering this treatment - lasik is excellent, but in the hands of someone that is not a skilled surgeon, you may have problems and not always get the best advice.

Had mine done over 10 years ago and it was definitely the best present I've ever given myself. I had an earlier version of Lasik; no cuts were involved and the few seconds of laser surgery for each eye was done separately at five months apart. If I didn't get 100% result then I could have it done again (at half price). That would be the worst scenario. Oh, and I was warned that a small number of people experience minor problems, mainly night 'halo' effect (which would make it difficult to see in the dark when driving, for example), but I had no ill effects apart from dry eyes upon waking in the morning for a few months. That was no big deal, and I ended up with perfect vision. Even if it doesn't last into my dotage then I'm sure they'll have sussed out new procedures to zap me back to 20:20 by then. However, because I'm hurtling towards being middle-aged, I'm inevitably beginning to go long-sighted so maybe I can eventually get that sorted. I understand they can correct long sightedness - and mild astigmatism - now...

im currently reading some stuff, inquiring about hospital facilities about LASIK treatment. wanna visit HK sanatorium for their seminar. i read more good reviews about this treatment. so most probly, il give this as a xmas, ny present to myself. i wear hard contacts and i read that i need to be off from wearing them for 3-8 weeks. got more time to save up. and of course, get more info, consolidate my questions, remove my doubts... and of course, gather my courage.

I wanted to get LASIK done myself , then I thought of doing some research.I was going through some stuff on the internet about celebrities who have done LASIK. There is an article about Jennifer Capriati , who had it done 3 yrs back, and its only recently she has problems playing in the night. She ,it seems, sees starbursts and halos.

Also do you know of any LASIK doctor/ surgeon who has gone through the procedure himself?

BTW, when I told my optician I was having laser surgery he asked if I'd come in after the 'op' just so he could examine my eyes, as he had not seen anyone yet who'd had the procedure. (This was over 10 years ago, and I had each eye done a few months apart.) Anyway, he carried out a thorough examination with all his magnifying equipment etc. and was amazed - he said there was no sign of any trauma and he wouldn't have been able to tell I'd anything done to my eye at all, let alone only two days previously.

Sanatorium in Happy Valley is the best place to go. 24K for the op and follow up visits, no pain and quick. I was -9.5 with dry eyes (had to quit wearing contact lenses). Doc said it's OK but will be a bit drier than before. Can see after the Op and very clear from the next day on. One week later, I had no problems with my dry eyes. Up to now, I can say it's amazing!!!

Video will look scary, but to be honest it is completely painless and very quick. The patient will only see a still light and a bit of movement from the doc. Go for it!!!!!

As with every medical procedure, there will be fantastic outcomes as well as horror stories. The only advice that I can give is: make sure you understand the possible complications before having the surgery, as a lot of people have high expectations pre-op (possibly due to the rave reviews) then feel disappointed if they don't have 20/20 post-op (even if they're not far off). Nothing is perfect.

I just wanted to say I had LASIK yesterday, and it is the BEST decision I have ever made for myself, today is the happiest day of my life (besides wedding day and the two birthdays of my children)..... no more glasses, no more contacts.
It's a new life for me.
SO happy I did it! 20/20 vision today at check up. No halos, no pain, no dry eyes. Absolutely perfect. (Thank goodness!!!!)
Hope anyone else out there who is sick of their glasses or contacts.... go for this procedure, it's the best thing you can do for yourself. The intralase machine, and an experienced doctor will get you the BEST results, and it's really safe now.

Hong Kong Lasereye Center. They are the first ones (if not, ONE of the first ones) with LASIK. It's better than going to the hospitals b/c they specifically do this in their clinics. And, the atmosphere, and staff there are very comforting, and very professional, and their doctors are VERY experienced. I specified the doctor I wanted, and they have Intralase. It's cheaper than at the hospital too.
I did it, and it's been 10 days.... PERFECT vision, and NOT a second of discomfort or evidence of doing it, except fo the perfect vision.
If you want the doctor's name, and tel, PM me. He's great, and over 30 people I KNOW have been done by him, ALL with perfect 20/20 vision. No complications at all. I asked how many LASIK with blade he has done, (over 5000), and Intralase, over 500... very good too in guiding me through the surgery.
