I am a UK national living in HK (have visa and ID card). I am close to running out of my oral contraceptive that I have always had prescribed by my UK doctor. My next visit to UK is not until October so I wonder if anyone can give me advice as to how to go about securing about two months supply ie the simplest/ least stress way. Do I have to go to a doctor and pay for consultation plus the then prescribed meds? Is a family planning clinic easier? Any advice or help is appreciated.

Hi, I'm from the UK too and have now been in HK for just over a year. I use a progesterone only pill Cerazette without problems.
Generally speaking, in the UK the GPs would give you a prescription for contraceptive pills for 1-3 months initially, then 6 monthly, then yearly. At each visit they'd ask you general questions about how you're getting on the pill, any problems, measure your blood pressure, and you'd usually get another prescription after the brief consultation. In HK, contraceptive pills are self funded. It can be bought over the counter or in popular pharmacy chains like Watsons and Manning right next to other contraceptives like condoms.
Prices are in the region of $100-140 for popular conteaceptive pills like Microgynon.
Medicines are well regulated in HK and if you go to a registered pharmacy you'll get the right products. Always check the expiry date before you leave the store.
In neighbourhood pharmacies you can get medicines for up to 20% off compared to prices in Watsons.
