My baby is 5 weeks old. She was born premature. I am bottle feeding her. She vomits after each feeding, and even when she' s sleeping... She stretches alot making a grumbling noise which follows either by vomiting or crying like she is in pain. Sometime after hours of feeding she spits up clear water. She sleeps poorly in the day time... This is really worrying me alot ive alrdy consulted with the docs during the follow up but they say, they cannot tell. And says tht vomitting is normal until and unless there's a blood or the vomits col is green. Pls help i am really really worried.

I'm not an expert in this but have you tried changing the baby formula you're using? You've been to the doctor/s so they should know best...

Crying can be normal but vomiting is not
consult a doctor immediately

It sounds as if your baby might be suffering from gastric reflux. This is quite common in premature babies. After feeds make sure you hold your baby upright for at least 20 minutes and try to prop up the cot/crib by placing a thick towel or blanket under the mattress so that the baby is lying at an angle to prevent milk refluxing back into the oesophagus. To soothe a screaming baby, hold the baby upright, facing forward with your hand on the baby's stomach quite firmly. Walk and gently jiggle the baby whilst holding like this. If none of this works contact us via our website www.thefamilyzone.hk or see your paediatrician.

My baby was also premature and has had feeding issues in NICU and had continued at home. She would scream all day and it was impossible to sooth her. Holding her she would scream swaddling her and she continued to scream until she was completely exhausted and went to sleep. I decided to change her formula to a lactose free one and she couldn't be happier. Now she will cuddle and finish her feeds without vomiting, just normal spit and no more thick phlegm.

@hknixon : how did you change the formula did u consult with the doc? My baby sleeps poorly in the day time. After feeding i put her in the cot but she wakes up in a while grumbling, stretching and making a red face and forcing out vomit (watery vomit).

Baby formula = baby food. I personally think the parent can choose for themselves what their baby can take.

I so feel for you. My baby was premature and was doing the same thing. After months and months and MONTHS of stress I found out my baby had reflux. I struggled to find help in Hong Kong and ended up flying to NZ whereby the baby was diagnosed by a pediatrician within 5 minutes of my appointment. It has been a long hard road. I spent months changing formulas before this visit and trying many different bottles/teats etc etc but unless your baby is lactose/protein intolerant it will make no difference (I changed to soy at one point also which helped a tiny bit). Please seek medical help and read all you can online about reflux. Once I read a bit I knew what I was dealing with and it was like a lightbulb went off. Good luck and let me know if you need any other information.
