My baby is nearly 7.5 mths and I am planning to get him injected today or tomorrow with the chickenpox vaccine (paediatrician's advice) as my husband has just been diagnosed with chicken pox this morning. Is it safe for a 7.5mth old to get the vaccine so early as I know it is normally for kids 12mths and above. I do trust my doctor but just want some other feedback as timing is quite crucial right now.

Why is the pediatrician suggesting you get the vaccine for your baby? I would prefer my children to get the chicken pox. It is not 100% anyway that your baby wont get it at a later stage anyway even with the vaccine.

That's strange why a Ped would advise that vaccine that early for a baby. It's definitely for 12 months or older. I don't think there is any immediate danger, but there are possible risks in any vaccines even when give at the appropriate age, let alone your baby is so much younger! You never can be too safe. (A mother's point of view). If you don't mind me saying, sometims ped don't know best. I learned that from experience. I (the mother) usually knows best for my babies.
Anyways, just realize this, contracting chickenpox is not the end of the world. Before this generation of babies, (like us) we all had to GET Chicknepox... no vaccines in those days. The earlier the better right? I was SO hesitant about getting my daughter vaccinated with it at 1 year old......some of my friends waited until school age b/c they said the chance of contracting it nowadays is so minimal.
Furthermore, my ped said, EVEN if you had chickenpox or the vaccine, it's NOT 100% protected. The Chickenpox we had 20-30 years ago, has not mutated into something else. My sister had measles when she was young, she got it again in her late 20s b/c it's a different "strand".
Just my thoughts. I would risk NOT getting the vaccine at this age. Just keep your baby away from your husband as much as possible. IF he DOES get it, well, just don't let him scratch.
