Gestational Diabetes....very worried?

I'm in my 37 week of pregnancy and just did a glucose blood test this morning. This afternoon the hospital called to tell me that I needed to see the dietician and be monitored for a 12 hr period sometime next week? I am really scared for the health of my baby? Can anyone tell me what are the implications and how bad it can be for me and my baby at this stage of pregnancy. Should I be very concerned??
