My 16 year old daughter perspires quite a bit. Even when walking, she will start to sweat, and it has a strong smell. It causes her to shower up to 3 times a day sometimes. She sweats through her clothing most times, and the smell is very bad - It has become embarrassing for her. She skipped school twice when she had PE on those days.
What can we do?

Wash under arms with dettol, you may have to dilute it as its strong but the idea is to kill the bacteria on the skin. Good Luck

It's caused by bacteria. Make sure she shaves well as the bacteria love armpit hair, and use dettol as suggested. You could also buy some Driclor from Watsons/Mannings and try that, it works REALLY well but you have to follow the directions properly. It's fairly painful the first time you use it, but after a week or so of usage this stops. There *may* be an increased risk of cancer, you need to do your research and decide for yourself, but I use it, it's amazing.

Right, my 2 cents on BO, a lot of it has to do with bacteria and diet. So if you can, get your daughter to consume at least 2-3 liters of water a day, drink plenty of Cilantro and Parsley juice daily (add some carrot and/or apple if necessary to give the juice some balance). It sounds gross, but its not that bad tasting, you will have to use a bunch of parsley, but I have to tell you, that stuff is the best for ridding you of BO. If you drink that daily, not only is it great for you, its also going to have you smelling good. Cut down consumption of meat and up consumption of fruit and veg.
If all else fails, go for a strong antiperspirant. It worked for my brother, he used to play basketball when we were in highschool, damn he would smell bad. But yeah, someone else said it right, its hormones too, so drinking lots of water, eating more fruit and veg, all these things will help to balance out the hormones. And when she rinses, to make sure she sticks to rinsing only places where the most sweat are (with soap), otherwise it could cause dryness of the skin, making it more succeptible to irritation etc. Showering 3 times a day is a bit excessive.
The other thing that helps slow/stop excessive sweating is sage tea. I bought big bags of sage from an online company in the US, will be happy to give you the link for the company if you like. Good luck.

You might want to think about buying some new clothes if your daughter has been wearing some of the items for a while. I believe the bacteria from sweat can become ingrained into the fabric of your clothing if you don't wash it immediately after sweating. When your daughter becomes hot and sweaty again this sort of "reactivates" the existing bacteria lodged into the clothing which makes the smell even worse. It's quite unusual for females to smell of BO due to the fact that we shave our armpits and the bacteria has no where to stick to and become stale on armpit hair unlike with men.
