Just curious ... how long have you been taking birth control pills? do you stop (maybe for a month or 2) in between at all?
I've been taking the pills for about 3 years now with no break.. Wanna know if anybody's taken that long or longer and if there's any side effects..
Thanks!

The longest that I have seen a patient taking the pill continuously is twenty-eight years. That is extreme, but 10-15 years is very common.
In the early days of the pill we used to recommed abreaknow and then but thatwas shown to be of little benefit.
I have had many patients who have a family history of endometriosis take the pill from the onset of menstuation until they were ready to conceive.

Thank you DrMoreton! Altho I'm not sure if your patient was in the same situation as I am.. I had a check up the other day and my ultrasound said my cervix was thin so the doctor wanted me to stop the pill for a month ... but I'm living with my bf and the pill is working very well for me so I'm not sure what to do at the moment.. (I've been with my bf for almost 3 years now..)

I think it may be the ENDOMETRIUM, the lining of the uterus that is thin. That happens on the pill it is the reason that your periods are lighter and less crampy. Are you planning to get pg in the next year? Usually you do not get PG for the first few months off the pill, I recommend that if you want to be Pg you stop the pill and have at least 3 periods before you try.
I do not have the monopoly of Gyn Knowledge but have never felt that one month off made much difference.

DrMoreton, I'm not trying to get pregnant ... that's why I was wondering if I could/should continute taking the pills b/c of what the ultrasound said.. Personally, I don't wanna get off the pills until we want to get pregnant ... which is not any time soon. I'm just worried about the side effects it might cause from taking the pills for so long..
