see a good doctor, and do it now. Medication is not the only answer, but it can certainly be useful in the short term to get you out of the hole. Do not reject it out of hand. But the most important treatment is to get to grips with the cause of depression and deal with it. Medication does not do that. But it will make the "getting to grips" that much easier.

I would suggest you see a great doctor who would be able to help you. You may just need him to take your blood and see what is happening within in you. His name is Dr David Stirling. He's in Central near Lan Kwai Fung. The number is 2849 7822.

Who knows, it may also not be depression but some medical condition. Just get it checked out before you write it off as being all in your head. If it is depression, get outside every day in the sunshine, find one thing of beauty each day to see or do, renew a friendship, start out by making yourself do at least two ten minute stretches of mild exercise each day and then gradually increase to 20 min each. Cheers!

Yes, I think it's important to make sure you address the eating disorder! Remember to take small steps and give yourself lots of praise and positive pats on the back! What about an exercise buddy? There are many anti-depressants and so can try some others that haven't been tried yet.

Solve the problem by Acupuncture and Herbal. My recommendation is Quality Chinese Medical Centre. They have branches in Central and CausewayBay. The appointment number is 2881 8267 and the web site is www.qualitytcm.com

There's more than one way to get a referral. For one thing, maybe try a more western doctor who has more of a cultural acceptance for the idea of counseling and support groups? Do you love your current physician, or did he / she give up after one trial of an antidepressant without trying the newer ones that aren't as sedating? Maybe QM could tell you who the good doctors are for this, maybe even a psychologist who would work with your GP. You are smart and motivated, that is 2/3 of the solution right there. True change is extremely difficult to accomplish, that's the hard news. But once the ball gets rolling it will be easier. Hang in there, you're doing the right thing to pursue healing. If you want it, you will find a way.

BERRY PICKER-try YOGA .I am a yoga teacher and have seen people do a complete turn around with a disciplined yoga practice. Very often stress and other reasons can cause blockages in the chakras and nadis ,there by supressing the natural flow of prana [life giving force]making us feel sad listless and dull. Yogic breathing with asanas and meditation will help your mind to see thing clearly and to deal with situations in a manner your soul deems fit for you.Yogasana conducts excellent classes under Michel Besnard a true yogi.I wish you all the very best...If you want to start one on one send me a message .

It might seem insignificant, but I started eating lightly steamed veg (bak choi, choi sum, broccoli) every day, big bowl 2-3 times a day. It gives you a kind of strength and fortitude for the fight. Also, force yourself to be around friends, even though you might feel strange and insecure or embarrassed. understanding friends can offer a different perspective and lift you, making you feel more 'normal'.
exercise seems to be a major factor.
with drugs, sometimes the pain of side effects is way less than the depression, and works for some people. one of the hardest things is to try and lift the mental heaviness and numb feeling that accompanies depression. one almost doesnt feel human. I think antidpressants might help with this.
If you want some professional help in Hong Kong, I would say surely the most insightful and effective psychoanalyst in HK is Dr Von Will (USA), his number is 9275 3528. He has a tremendous depth of knowledge in these issues. He changed my life.
Take it one day at a time - thinking about the future when depressed just makes the future seem bleak. Dont think about the past, again, in a depressed state of mind all your thoughts are warped negatively anyway and you will filter out all the good things that happened and good things you have done.
You are not alone in depression, even though it seems like it.
