registering with a GP?

Hi,

We're very new to Hong Kong and I was wondering if there is an equivalent to registering with a GP in the UK? We don't have medical insurance, so I'm hoping there are decent governemnt funded practices?

To start of with I'm looking at some vaccinations we might not be up to date on, but I'm hoping to find somewhere to go to for small problems as well - like ear infections which our little one seems prone to.

Thank you in advance for any information!

Welcome to the land of free enterprise; there is no NHS in Hong Kong.

So what do I do if I want to get a vaccination? or want to see someone about a sprained ankle? Who do I go to and where do i find them?

If you have a HK ID, you can use the public service. It's not free. You have to pay as you go. I have used used it for both myself and my baby. On both occasions it was good service. We turned up at the clinic, they checked passport and made copy of visa, took number of HK ID and asked for address and tel. That's it all set up for ne t time I need to go.

I needed to see a Doc, I paid HKD45 for that, any prescriptions he gives you are free.

He referred me to specialist at hospital. I went there and paid HKD100. Again great thorough treatment. The cost is a one off, you pay before you see anyone. It includes all the tests and drugs they deem necessary.

It's not all singing all dancing clinics/ hospital but you do feel like you can trust them. Doctors speak English, all other personnel not at all or just enough to get you through the system.

I have private insurance but chose to go with public system purely for convenience. ( no private Doc as close to me as the public clinic).

Hope this help a bit.

Vaccinations. If it's for a young child, to follow the HK vaccination calendar, you need to get him/ her registered at a 'mother and child clinic' I can't remember the exact name.

Sorry I don't know how to edit posts

That's where you will find addresses for where to go with a sprained ankle or blocked ears. The hospital authority oversees that

ha.org.hk/visitor/ha_visitor_index.asp?Content_ID=10052&Lang=ENG&Dimension=100&Ver=HTML%20

And on the link below is you child services

That really is it this time :-))
