Im planning to have laser treatment for my eyes... and finally get rid of my glasses, contacts. I dont know where, how to start. and of course, around how much it will cost.

Ive read that I will need to undergo some sessions if I'll be qualified for this kind of treatment. Any recommended opthalmologists, reasonably-priced eye centers?

I highly recommend Dr. Li at the Hong Kong Sanatorium. I had my eyes done around a year ago and now have 15/20 vision! Do a search on Lasik under this forum and you will find more info.

thanks bluesky... i read thru some replies before. some names stuck, Dr David Chan, Dr MacRobert... and of course, Dr. Li.

how was the entire procedure? any side effects for you? how many days do the eyes need to recuperate? my bulk of work is mainly facing the pc and im not sure if that will be good after the treatment...

It was amazing. I had the procedure done late afternoon, went home the same day and more or less went to bed to rest. The next day I took off the shields and could see!

I don't think there is any problem being able to read, if the results turn out fine.

The only thing I have to do now is use artificial eye drops every now and then (usually in the mornings) because of dry eyes.

if you are very short sighted or if you are older than you may well have problems reading afterwards.

i had blurry reading vision for a few weeks after the surgery. now, 2 months later, it's fine, but still can't read very small print.

my far vision is fine, i probably would need about -0.25/-0.50 now, but of course don't bother, since it's so minimal.

the actual procedure is really nothing to worry about, but the healing process can take up to a few months.

i highly recommend it. nothing beats waking up in the morning, and being able to see...

good luck!

my surgeon told me that less than 5% of all patients need to be treated again after a few months. if you are suitable or not depends on a number of things, not just how strong/weak your vision is. if you, for example suffer from dry eyes it is not recommended. i know someone who was -18 and over 50 and had it done successfully.

you really need to go for a consultation, have everything checked out and then the surgeon can tell you if you are suitable or not.

the pre-examination is really nothing to worry about. it's completely painless; they check your vision thoroughly, they check if you have dry eyes, they check eye pressure, etc. if you are used to touching your eyes, it's not much worse than putting in your contact lenses.

I suggest you take with you a list of questions you want to ask the surgeon about the actual operation and also what happens afterwards. he will tell you exactly what will happen during the procedure.

i had it done at the adventist hospital; consultation and examination is $800 and the operation is $18,500. this includes post examinations, but not medication, which is a few hundred dollars for eyedrops.

you can read more about lasik and dry eyes here:

all i can tell you is that i never had dry eyes before, and for a few weeks after the surgery i could hardly open my eyes in the morning, that's how dry they became. i guess if you have dry eyes already before, it would make things even worse. but remember, everyone's eyes are totally different.

Meems, if you need a second opinion to be certain, do get one. But he is quite right to recommend you could have the surgery as planned. Best check, though, to be sure in your own mind.
