Why are dermatologist so bad?
I had few skin marks i wanted to get checked out, I went to see yesterday Dr William K. K. Fung in Causeway bay, after a 2 second look at them he said "it's eczema", I asked if he was sure cos I get eczema sometimes but never where it is now and doesn't look like that, he said "yeah yeah it's eczema". Then I asked him about laser treatment cos I get red on my face ( rosacea) and i wanted to know the price to get it treated, so he took his little lamp, had a quick look at my face and said ( again) "it's eczema". I almost laugh at his face, apparently the man didn't know what he was talking about!
I showed my redness at few western dermatologist in the past and they all agreed that it was a kind of rosacea and I could eventually treat it by laser, but eczema, that was a first!
I had to pay 700$ for the 5 minutes i was there and get some cream I won't even use.
Does anyone knows a western dermatolosit here?

His name was recommended to me by a friend but she did not know if he is good or not but knew that many people see Dr Leung.

UTRICARIA RASH – urgent
Anyone knows a dermatologist (I speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin) who recently / previously cured this kind of allergy for someone???
have been suffering from utricaria rash (an allgergy look like sting bites big and red). First used western medicine and then TCM. Both did not work. The dermatologists in the government clinic & hospital diagnosed the same thing: utricaria rash. They prescribed "Pirton" which is said to be the most effective (yes it works best but it does not cure the source), another also prescribed “Xyrtec” (less effective but less sleepy). These are in fact the medications Margaret Hospital gave to another friend who suffers this allergy for more than 9 months. She also said the pills were effective but could not cure the cause.

Urticaria is most often left without a known cause - there are so many causes, that it is just very difficult to isolate them all. Possible is a food allergy, but most anything can cause it. It may be a one-off event, and it may last 3 months. Antihistamines and steroids will help the acute phase. Rarely it persists, and then you have a problem.
Check for allergies, review the immune system components, and you might try the high vitC and amino acid regimen to improve cell communication. Usually works.

My symptoms persists for 6 months, on and off. So does my friend (for 9 months). I have had skin check long time ago with a immunologist / dermatologist with American Immunology Board (or something similar) and no food allergy on common types was found.
But this time I suspected it was caused by food: during one week in Oct: I ate duck, oyster, sushi, lamb, curry. TCM herbalists universally say this type of food is "wet hot". The herbist that I went to said the same and related everything to my liver. He urged me to eat a lot of protein for amino acid (through double boiling minced beef etc). (PS he had undergone western medical training, probably a surgeon in China. He wrote a lot of half-page articles on local Chinese newspaper about liver-related sickness, including urticaria. And he has a great bilingual website.)
Actually, to avoid the trouble of double-boiling food, I went to GNC speciality store and had a free diagnosis (by questionnaire etc). The nutritionist (a fresh grad, not registered, not so confident) recommended GNC "Milk / Thirstle" which is good for liver, and "L-Lysine", a kind of amino acid to repair internal organ. I have not tried any yet.
Any idea if they are the amino acid that you recommend? If you don't want to commend on particular brand names or products, you could send me a message via this Asiaxpat message system. Range: A, user / name = ann6070
If you like, I can give you or anyone the TCM herbist's website that I have had treatment. It works well for my friend in 2 weeks, but not effective enough for me.

Mr Wong is the herbalist who owns this website / clinic. He is over 60 and does not speak English. This is basically a one-man owned / operated clinic (not that much a centre) assisted by another herbalist in an ordinary residential building. He only treats diseases related to liver diseases caused by virus.
From what Mr Wong told me, docboat's kind explanations and some articles that I have searched on the internet about urticaria (from western medical perspective), the TCM and western medical treatment / theories can be reconciled to a certain extent (eg "Wind Hot", the proper English name is "Wind" not "Wet Hot" I wrote last time).
Just to clarify, my friend who first recommended Mr Wong to me, has NOT yet recovered / have her symptons totally removed because she said she is lazy. She does not want to visit the TCM herbalist frequently, nor to boil the herb tea everyday (not even to buy boiled tea from him, maximum 3 days each time). So, she has been taking Xyrtec and TCM herb tea on and off....
By the way, do you know if treatment by immunology can offer a fundamental solution?
Does anyone ever try Dr Adrian Wu for urticaria?
I have heard that he is an American Board certified allergist.

My husband has LOADS of moles from hanging out in the sun too much, and he gets Ronald Leung to check them once a year. He photographs and maps out the body so he has a record of what moles are there and how they've changed.
I thought that Mr Leung was very expensive but I think the reason my husband sees him is because he doesn't know anyone else to go to. I don't think Mr Leung has had to remove any of my husband's moles so I can't comment on that aspect.

I saw Dr. Leung years ago because the skin on my face was flaiking off, he told me it was hormone imbalance after looking at my face for 1 minute and was rather impatient when I asked for details of the cream he was giving me (it was cortisone). I did not want want cortisone on my face so I never applied it. In the end the flaking stopped when I stopped my daily drinking of milk, turns out I have milk intolerance.

Saw Dr Leung, he was very busy & brisk, but the technology was amazing. $1200 for 5 minutes but nothing that needs removing, so that saved a bundle I guess!

Dr Leung was very busy and actually quite 'brusque' with me. Felt rather poorly treated. He didn't take long enough to check all areas of my skin and I felt for the first time, rather resentful at having to pay so much for a doctor's appointment.
Avoid Dr Ouis Shih at all costs. He kept me waiting for one hour, even though I was his first appointment of the day. He had a superior demeanor. He did a biopsy on a mole for me and forgot to ring me up with the results. When I called, and it had come back positive for melanoma, he seemed genuinely shocked and blurted it out. He didn't offer any support whatsoever as it was the end of the day and he was on his way out of the office. I had to call around other friends and doctors to find out what I should do about it.

I go to Dr Leung since almost 5 years, He is good.. helpful, although sometime he don't have enough time. He prescribe me cream to use daily, works very well for me when I have skin irritation and avoid having breakout. When I run out he let me pickup the cream with out me seeing him.
But Im having hard time dealing with the people working at his clinic, although Dr Leung is very nice, their people is making me difficult just for me to pick up my cream, I find it they are extremely rude to my experience. Now I'm about to look for another Doctor...

I have seen Dr. Simon Ku several times in the last 2 years. He hardly spends 5 minutes on my skin problem and always does the same - antibiotic cream and 2 types of shampoo, use it for two weeks, if not better come back again. Well, it helped once, now no more, and no other option he can offer.
I will try Ronald Leung now.....
