A specialist opinion would be advisable especially with compression on the spinal nerves.
Dr Clarence Leung is a Neorosurgeon who specialises in spinal care. Please feel free to give me a call for more information on doctors with admitting privilages at the hospital.

According to a specialist:
Annular tears normally do respond to a combination of Anti-inflammatory drugs (2 weeks)and physio (around 6 weeks). If the pain becomes refractory to conservative measures or keep on recurring, then one may require a stabilisation surgery performed by a spine surgeon.

Go and see Professor Yau or Dr. Louis C.S. Hsu at the Orthopaedic Dept of the Canossa Hospital No.1 Old Peak Road. Tel. 2522 2181 They are very good and they have an MRI system and also teh DBC Active Spine Care Centre for physio. Consultation Fees are cash only but everything else can be paid for with credit card or medical card.
Broad based disc protrusion sounds like what is commonly known as a slipped disc. I know, I've had one and my MRI report said something similar. Go get it fixed or it will get worse.

I had a similar MRI result when I had slipped disc in 2003--affecting my L4, L5 and S1.
I did not respond to anti-inflammatory drugs nor to 4 weeks of rehab medicine which consisted of thrice weekly TENS, hot packs and traction.
What worked for me was a combination of adjustments by a chiropractor/orthopedist, 3x/weekly myotherapy for a month, and I remember having 3 sessions with injections at the base of my spine. I have a high threshold for pain, but the myotherapy was a killer.
I still get lower back pains from time to time even if I'm always conscious about how I lift heavy items or when I'm working out.
Please show your MRI results to both a chiropractor and/or an orthopedist. And do it ASAP. And be mindful of your posture. Read up too on the Alexander technique. Good luck
