I have decided to have lapband surgery in a couple of months,and want to hear from anyone who has had this procedure here in Hong kong or anywhere in Asia.I have done research and although it is much cheaper to have it done in Thailand,I need to know if I can get fills here in hong kong.

Where are you going to have operation? I had a lap band operation on the 30th June 2008 at the Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong. So I went Public. Yes it did take me from my first initial step to getting the lap band from the Oct 2007 to the June 2008. Was a lot cheaper. The operation went really well. I have lost 9 kgs but have stopped loosing. Had my first fill of 1cc on 21 July. Will have to find out what is going on when I go back later this month.
Yes you can get fills here.
I dont' think it has been a big thing in Hong Kong but it is getting more popular.

I had a balloon (not a band) with Dr Anthony Li - 2521 6830 - this week! It is a good first step before or in place of banding, and much cheaper.

Now about 15 lbs lighter after the balloon, eating less but normally, feeling well, been back to the gym and able to exercise, though have not pushed too hard. Pretty happy so far! Looking forward to getting back into my 'old' clothes...

I had a ballon with Dr Li as well. Just had it out on Sat after 6 months. Would not recommend it. It was not cheaper in the long run, between the cost to have it in and then the cost to have it out and the visits in between and the medicine it added up to almost the US$12K it would have cost to have the lap band in Singapore. Also, after the inital month of feeling sick and losing about 15lbs, I didn't lose any further weight. I recommend going straight to the band.

cezzer, sorry to take so long to reply. Well it has been 8 months since the band was fitted for me. I am now 21kgs lighter. Hit a sticking point at the moment and have been the same weight for ages. I had mine done at the Queen Mary Hospital Hong Kong by Professor Chu and Dr Chan. It cost 18K. Then you pay everytime you go for an appointment only $60 to $100. You can contact 9657 6498 he was my initial contact who set up for them to call me and make an appointment.
Have you had it done yet? Probably as it has been a while from your post. Let me know how you are getting on.
Sorry to hear that the one that got the balloon didn't work. I was not interested in getting that as I know if it had to be removed in 6 months time I would put all the weight back on. I chose the lapband as it is for a life time and that is what I need to keep on track. As you said cheaper but not in the long run.

So as soon as i read your thread, I emailed the doctors and im waiting to hear back from them. I will keep you posted on what is happening and please keep me posted on how things are going with you. Just arrived in HK having had the op done in Bruges three and a half weeks ago. Great to see this forum as I need to have my first fill done. Have lost about 4kgs so far. Called one of the humbers above and was told to check the surgical team at HK Sanitorium. Will keep you posted.

I am visiting HK for a month. My family and I lived here for 4 yrs. a few years back. I had the lap band done in Dallas Tx. and it has been very successful after having 3 fills. They like to do it slowly to see how much you need to really loose the weight. I am in HK for 2 more weeks and I am having problems with vertigo and I am nauseous all the time. I need to have the saline removed from my port and I cannot find anything online. Did the HK Sanitorium accept you?

I had my lapband done also by Dr Li last April, Dr Li was great, he helped me alot and carefully explains the options for me when I went to consult him before my surgery. I'm feeling great now and don't regret having it done.
I remember the first time I called 2521-6830 to enquire, maybe you could try that.

As well as losing over 50 kilos, my cholesterol level and BMI has also improved, and taking less drugs as I used to. I can get a good night's sleep now as well as exercising 6 days a week! I feel as healthy as can be!
How did you contact Dr Li? Maybe you could call their hotline 2521-6830 for futher info?
