Sleep problems:Need help

ORIGINAL POST

I have been having sleep problems over the past 4 weeks. I lead an active lifestyle and try to eat healthy. I have no problems falling asleep but wake up after 2-4 hrs. After that I keep waking up. Somedays I can go back to sleep but lately I find it is becoming more difficult to go back to sleep. I have just come back after a trip and probably jetlag is making it worse but this waking up has been happening even before my trip. This is affecting my quality of life. I feel sleepy and lethargic from early evening but have to hold off sleep for fear that I will wake up after 2-4 hrs and wont be able to go back to sleep. ANy suggestions on what I shd do or a doctor I should see. I saw a GP yeterday and he prescribed me a low grade sleeping aid, I still woke up though( although I got 4 hrs. of good sleep before that). Please help.

You are waking after 2-4 hours but hold off sleep in the early evening in case you wake after 2-4 hours? You seem to be concerned about something happening that is already happening?

Why not try a nap in the early evening? Just 20 minutes. You shouldn't concentrate on it, nor worry about falling asleep. If your brain needs a rest as well, you'll soon fall asleep.

And there's nothing wrong with a quick nap. Thomas Edison hardly slept at all, except in 20-minute naps, and he did quite well.

Magnesium is a relaxant and helps you sleep - taken in a multimineral form (rather than a multivitamin) it works to relax the body.

Did a relaxation course and to add to the breathe in through the mouth out through the nose exercise - try to visualise drawing a line down your sternum as you breathe out, and a line coming up as you breathe in - up, down, up, down - soon gets very boring and sleepy.
