20+ years ago I had an injury somewhat similar, but I cratered the opposite-facing surface (the bottom of the femur). After months of limited flexion and a half-year non-weight-bearing, my leg was extremely stiff. They put me on a CPM machine, and then into a rehab center for several weeks... and finally gave up ever restoring my full range of motion. The CPM machine worked slowly, and was quite painful. Left to my own devices (no pun intended), I did my homework, and tried some techniques that are used overseas by some more enlightened medical specialists. Within just a few weeks after that, I had back 98-99% full range of motion, and I achieved that in a natural manner that was fairly pain-free. I can't explain it well here, but if you'd like to learn how I did it, so you can do it yourself, send me back a message including your contact phone number.
