We've all seen it. Someone bellies up to the fast food counter and orders a Whopper with cheese, large fries and diet soda — as if a zero-calorie chaser can compensate for the 1,300 calorie overload. Or are you guilty of scarfing down a whole big bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos and a Diet Mountain Dew?
Many of us justify a diet drink habit as a way to cut calories and lose weight. For some it can work, at least for awhile.

Diet soda is Diet soda because the sweet taste in it is artificial. Mostly Aspartame. Than normal glucose which is more natural.
That would be one good reason to "ditch" it. There has been much association of aspartame intake with neurological disorders.
Also artificial sugars can cause extremely high blood sugar levels when normal starch or glucose is eaten for example honey, rice, or bread. Because artificial is artificial the body doesn’t recognise it as normal sugar, it just tastes sweet.
The pancreas response to sweet taste but when no sugar is detected given it was artificial the pancreas cease to respond even when normal sugar is ingested and thus raise blood sugar unnecessarily and lead to High Blood Sugar.
The best way to go is to stick with natural sugars when you need them. So eat sugar for sugar's sake for example in fruits. But if something needs to be sweetened like tea or coffee is this food nutritionally sound? Is it dense enough nutritionally?
To think of tea or coffee they’re just extracts of dried leaves or roasted beans with water! And loading them with sugar is just looking for trouble! But for instance If one is making a fruit shake consisting Apples, Grapes, Blueberries, Bananas or juice for instance you could add a bit of sugar knowing that all these contain fibre and will help control that sugar release into the blood like it’ll normally be.
In baking bread it’s different because the yeast added will consume the sugar.
So moderation is the key to successful healthy life.
Adding quality to that moderation by picking honey over caster sugar will be an excellent deal.
