Indeed, best to see a doctor; If indeed this is epilepsy, which is quite possible, you could put yourself at danger, as the events occur randomly, and as you say, have already caused one or two accidents.
I suggest at least, do not put yourself at risk, don't drive, swim etc, unless supervised, until you know what these events are. A neurological specialist should be able to diagnose this for you with the help of an EEG (tracing of the electric activity of the brain).

Minor epileptic seizures or narcolepsy are the first things that springs to mind for me. Have you ever asked anyone what they observe when you have one of these "blank moments"?

My husband has had exactly the same thing. After seeing several doctors here in Hong Kong to no avail (one said it was merely emotional stress), we sought out a top neurologist in New York who quickly diagnosed the "blankness" episodes as "brief simple partial seizures." In other words, mild epileptic seizures. His may have been triggered by an old head injury. He's tried two different medications and now seems to be on one that works for him. The seizures have disappeared. His doctor advises that he needs to be on medication and seizure-free for two years before getting off the medication.
I wish I could recommend a neurologist in Hong Kong, but unfortunately we didn't have much luck. Perhaps one of the other posters can recommend. But it's definitely neurological.
Good luck!
