Hello everyone,

My sister suffered a horrible stroke (Brain Hemorrhage due to AVM) this year May 30 only 6 days after giving birth to her 3rd child (C-Section). She has 3 beautiful kids and are all very young. The eldest one is barely 4. Miraculously, she survived and only suffered a slight paralysis on the right part of her body but having some difficulty in her speech after having her operation done. Her right eye has also been affected too she says her right eye's vision is far more blurred than before. She's been in the hospital for 2 months or so and will finally be discharged this coming Monday. We're all very excited to welcome her home. She really misses her kids and would often cry whenever she thinks of them. It's heartbreaking to see her physically and emotionally down :(

We make sure we (her family) are there for her every step of the way until she gets through this very difficult phase in her life. She persistently does her best to get better and practice her body movements/speech for her family's sake. They serve as her greatest motivation. She is very hopeful that someday she can be able to go back to work, spend quality time with her loveones, play with her kids, cook for her hubby..basically live a normal life. We would really be grateful if you can suggest or recommend us a very good speech/physio/occupational therapist as well as an eye doctor that can speed up my sister's recovery and bring back the normal life she once had. Thanks for taking the time to read this post. We would really appreciate all the help we can get.

THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE!!!!! :)

Hello vj08,

There is a very good Dr in central who specialized in brain surgery, especially on the stroke, you may try!

Once you do find a physio and occupational therapist to help your sister, then her improvement should be steady, but does take time.

I cannot suggest the best in Hk, as we moved from there some time ago.

But! I can offer some encouragement, a very good friend of ours had a stroke many years ago, she was in labour at the time, so they had to proceed with a C section to deliver her daughter who was two months premature. Or friend was on life support following her stroke, then regained consciousness, she was in hospital in Uk for nearly six months.

Our friend had to have speech therapy, physio and occupational therapy, but she did recover tremendously, but with one arm totally paralysed. With specialist equipment at home, she managed to do all her housework, look after her husband and daughter, and even continue her passion for baking and icing the most beautiful cakes.

Our friend did try to go back to her 'old job' in insurance, but found it a little stressfull, as her memory was not quite as good, plus she now had a young daughter, so happily realised that it was not meant to be, being alive with a lovely young daughter is now all that mattered.

Recovery after a stroke takes time and determination, good luck to your sister., and stay possative.

Hi vj08 I am just back in the US from visiting my 44 year old brother who had a stroke around the same time as your sister. He also has three boys the oldest of whom is not yet 5. Paul was treated by Dr Pang and is now going through some pretty intense rehab, speech, physio etc. Things are very tough for them at the moment and my sister n law Laura is under incredible strain. The family is n Clearwater bay and Paul goes into town (onto the island I think) for therapy. I wonder if there is a way to get the families in contact to share advice on therapists etc?
