How are Diabetes covered in HK?

Hi,

I am a diabetec Type 1 (insuline depended) and I will be living and working in HK from January 2006 onward. I am looking for some advice around medical insurance. I transfer on local terms and my company is providing me with a basic health care package. Pre medical conditions are not covered. I spoke to Medicalsurance (broker) and it seems there are no private plans that will cover me for my medical expenses and the only option is the public system. Can somebody point me into the direction of other type 1 expats. I would like to get in touch with those individuals and understand how this all works in HK. Also some advice on how to get good coverage/understand the quality of the public system (english speaking/coverage of insuline needles/ etc). Please advice. Mark

Not sure how the public clinics work but if you want to drop me a line or call I may be able to advice specialists that do and can refer you into the public system or see them privately.
