Can anyone please tell me whether or not there is a good private paediatrician, doctor or hospital in Guangzhou? Guangzhou is probably one of the worst places on earth to live in for kids, with its erratic weather, humidity, pollution, etc. My kid cathes a fever and / or tonsilitis from time to time and every time we go to one of the "mainstream" hospitals (and these include ones supposedly renowned for treating children, such as Guangzhou Children's Hospital, Guangdong Provincial Hospital for Women and Children, etc.) she gets to put on the IV and if the fever persists she gets hospitalised. And the medicine and treatment she receives differs from hospital to hospital (for treating the same illness), obviously based on the kick-backs that the docs receive from the drug companies. I am really fed up with the hospitals here and so I am wondering whether or not there is a private clinic or doctor that the expats prefer going to see in Guangzhou.
Any kind of help will be much appreciated.

We go to Can Am, its at the 5th floor of the Garden Hotel. Give garden hotel a call to get their number. I don't have my contact list with me at the moment. My son is turning 4 years old and has been here since he was born in HK. No hospitalization and IV for him. Fever is treated with Paracetamol and when he gets viral/bacterial issues then he gets low dose antibiotics. We see Dr. Peggy Lu. She's fantastic. Hope this helps.

Goodluck and good health to your child.

Kmom, is Can Am really that expensive? My daughter went for a check-up because her tonsils flared up again. Saw Peggy Lu and nothing was prescribed, and we got billed USD90! is this about right?

Unfortunately yes. They can be that expensive. I think the clinic assumes that everyone who goes there are covered with this mighty expat insurance. I need to let you know too that after 6pm they also charge "emergency" consultation as it is after clinic hours.
