What is the remedy for an ingrown toe nail that has already been operated on twice? Both times, was with local anesthetic and the part of the nail that was ingrown was cut, but the rest of the nail was left intact. This corrected the problem, but as the nail regrows, it seems to be ingrown again, always at the base. Will it help to have the entire nail removed and let it regrow? Thanks

Normally your doctor should remove the whole nail permanently after 3 attempts. It's important to remember that after the minor nail excisions you need to retrain the new nail growth and this will involve regular checks with your doctor/podiatrist. It is not fixed solely by surgery.

you may need to have the part of the nail which is ingrown removed permanentley. this can be done by sugrical removal of the nail bed or by chemical cautery( puting a chemical down the excised area of the nail bed which prevents re growth) this can be done with good cosmetic results . See a specialist doctor or a podiatrist .
