Since reading this I have cut out virtually all carbs - no pasta, no oatmeal, no cereals, no bread, no fruit, no sugar... (did not consume any processed food or junk foods so did not need to cut those out)
I have eaten mainly vegetables (cooked and salads), vegetable juice with a bit of plain yogurt + cinnamon powder, nuts, various lean meats, egg whites (sometimes with yellows). almond milk... absolutely no GMO...
I have not changed anything else (still do 20k bike each morning + 20 minutes gym in the afternoon)...
I am down 1.5kg in less than a week - and I don't get the bloating I often experienced when eating certain carbs.
Energy levels are fine - in fact I feel even more energy now...
I am convinced that carbs are the enemy ... other than an occasional pizza... I am staying off them...

William Davis (cardiologist)
William R. Davis is a Milwaukee-based American cardiologist and author of health books known for his stance against so-called "modern wheat", which he labels a "perfect, chronic poison".[1][2] His book Wheat Belly became a New York Times bestseller within a month of publication in 2011.[3]
The book inspired a detailed point-by-point analysis of Davis's claims in an attempt to refute them.[4] Stating all modern wheat, which he refers to as "Frankenwheat", is toxic and addictive as many drugs, and makes you want to eat more food especially junk foods in particular.
Quoted on the Dr. Oz show interview, opening with the statement "The Wheat of today, is nothing like the wheat of the 1960, 1950; that is the wheat that our moms or grandmothers had, so it has been changed. This new crop has implications for human health that were never been anticipated. So this is appropriate for nobody, no human, nobody in this audience, should be eating this modern creation of genetics research." [5]

I am skeptical of anything I read in the MSM... as I wonder which industry/special interest has planted a story that protects their interests (i.e. revenues).
The food industry would be well served by having stories run that indicate obesity is genetic ... that people are powerless to fight it ... no matter what they do they will be overweight...
The data however does not support this ...
Why is the obesity epidemic a recent phenomenon that correlates very highly with incrased carb intake ... see the graph:
http://blog.photocalorie.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Carb-vs-year-vs-obesity-1024x587.jpg
And how can it be that such a massive proportion of individuals in some developed countries are far higher than in others? Surely that cannot be genetic...

Hi Ed,
I'm very glad that you brought it up, and you cut out the all grains after reading Mark Sisson!
While some people argue that the weight loss can come from eating less carbs but what they don't know about grains is, grains, beans and legumes contain phytate and lectins, while the former binds with minerals, the latter binds with insulin receptor, which can cause indigestion, bloating, other digestive issues and insulin resistance which attributes to type II diabetes and obesity. You can see more reference on Mark's website - http://www.marksdailyapple.com/why-grains-are-unhealthy/#axzz2jrCpQNmP
I adopt paleo (or archevore) eating style and I'm feeling healthier than ever. My stomach doesn't bloat or hurt as much as when I used to eat pasta/ bread and the alike. My energy level has also stabilised.
Regarding worldwide obesity, I quite agree with Maika as he pointed out that richer people can afford buying better quality food. The main problem in the modern world is that there are too many processed (fake) foods around, unless people cook more often at home, there is always risk that we eat 'fake food'. An example being a McDonald's burger, the patty itself hardly contains any real beef, but all preservatives, wheat flour, flavouring and other chemicals. French fries is no longer made of potato but wheat flour, artificial flavourings and chemicals, okay maybe trace of potato flakes. Hence, some people suffer from CFS, hormones imbalance and other health issues.
As I was having this discussion with my partner, people from the 60's and 70's were slimmer and healthier even though they cooked with lard and ate full-fat foods. Of course, that was also a time before GMO and hormones-injection/ force-feeding industrial farming. Then the food manufacturers created the so-called healthy food pyramid and introduced zero fat products, people started to get fatter and obesity rate flared.
I genuinely hope people can look more into the foods that they eat and don't just blindly follow fad diets in (false) hope for fast weight loss…
Best,
Joey

Malka - re the gene issue... how do they explain why people were not morbidly obese in great numbers until relatively recently?
This carries a faint whiff of the food industry trying to tell people that there is nothing they can do about being overweight... so just keep on gorging on Fritos and super-sized sodas...

Perhaps it is a combination of genes + the onslaught of market for processed foods...

What's Behind 'Grain Brain': Are Gluten and Carbs Wrecking Our Brains and Our Health?

Hey guys, just read through all the message,
referring to the gene topic, actually there are much more then that, in fact nutritionist have now started to use genetic testing as a powerful tool to pre-determine hows the body trait of their client before deciding which way to lose way would be most efficient for a person.
What Genes can tell us are straight forward, the in-born BMI level (Which tells us why some are fatter naturally), in-born waist readings, the effectiveness of diet to losing weight and effectiveness of excercise to losing weight, and which type of diet is the most effective when it comes to losing weight.
These information are straight forward then, instead of trying millions of methods and adopting the trial and error approach, understanding our body traits through genes gives us answers and directions of how and which is the best way of doing so.
