Pediatrician

Hi, I need a pediatrician who is good with Asthma for my 8 year old son. We went to some pediatrician in Tsin Yi who gave him medication that is not only off the market in Canada but dangerous to combine with his asthma medication. Anybody knows a good pediatrician who only gives pills if absolute necessary? Please help!

You're not going to find one. You want a pediatrician that will treat your child they way YOU want him treated. Good pediatricians give good advice and am willing to work with the parents, but ultimately, good advice is objective.


Those of you who disagree with me will never be convinced, but a GOOD pediatrician (or any doctor) do not share qualities of doctors that will conform to your expectations (vs considering, but not conforming). I know plenty of examples (literally hundreds)of this scenario where I hear when parents describe their pediatricians as being great, but when you listen closely, what they mean is that their pediatricians agree with them. I know of plenty of examples of pediatrician who allow the parent to dictate the treatment and universally they are all disasters (and alot of the parents are highly educated by the way). Unless you think you know more about medicine (and not just asthma) than your pediatrician, let him/her give you the recommendation.


So if you start off with a reqirement of how your doctor will treat you, then you will have to decide what you want. Someone good, or someone who agree with you. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

How about a pediatrician that gives your child medication that is off the market in Germany and Canada? How about a pediatrician that gives your child cough medicin and asthma medicin that should not be prescribed at the same time? How about a pediatrician that orders asthma medication to a child well beyond the normal dosis? Want any names to judge for yourself if YOU have any medical background at all?

Well of course, my doctor in Toronto was only associated with the Hospital for Sick Children's, one of the leading institutions for children in the world, my doctor in Thailand was the leading pediatrician at the Bangkok Phuket Hospital and in Germany I had a specialst for Asthma in children, they all treated my children in a way that went in accordance with what I wanted to hear(that's why they all give similar medication and advice) and their advice towards the medication prescribed by a pediatrician in Hong Kong (as I e-mailed them the prescribed names and dosis) is not valid.

Since Astma runs in my family I have some experience with medication and I know which medication was prescribed in the past. A good doctor treats children responsible and accurate. But giving a child for a mild Bronchitis 8 different medications is money making and irresponsible, not the trade mark of a good doctor.Maybe that is how the majority of doctor's in Hong Kong treat patients, but I doubt it. I believe I just got a black sheep.
