i'm relocating to SH, and was wondering how the medication/pharmacy system works there. particularly important is the availability of paxil, wellbutrin and ritalin.
how much do these cost in SH? do i have to go somewhere to get a prescription? where is a reliable place to go, and how much should i expect to pay?
does anyone know what paxil, wellbutrin and ritalin are called in chinese, or should the doc know these names?
i'm from canada and used to having it covered. at this point i will not have med. insurance. thanks.

I haven't tried to get those meds in China, but personally would arrange to bring them in suitcase (with appropriate prescription). I find that sometimes even if a med is theoretically available here, if it's not a standard item then it can be quite a search to find it. Also, are paxil and wellbutrin still under patent? If so, that adds another layer of complexity in getting the "name you know and trust," and on that subject . . . what do you know about the quality control of the chinese pills, in these meds where the slightest deviance from dosage is very important.

One of the biggest risks in China is the amount of fake medication circulating which essentially uses identical packaging but having different or placebo ingredients. It is also the reason why many tourists from China come to HK to purchase their drugs.
If you do find a reliable outlet, it should be cheaper than HK though.
