The simplest thing works for me and it isn't strong so worth a try: ASPRO CLEAR. A pharmacist suggested it as it seems to help some people with migraines. It works for me.
If I don't take anything, mine escalate to vision problems, nausea and vomitting. If I catch it early with an Aspro it never escalates from a dull tiring headache, but I have to take it easy - stay out of the sun, nothing strenuous, etc.
Before this I had only tried stronger pain killers with no effect, so i am not sure if your are the same, but it can't hurt to try this.
I still have a horrible feeling even after the Aspro but I can usually function and work to some degree (definitely cannot without).
I can't find Aspro here or HK so stock up when abroad. www.pharmacyonline,com.au can ship anywhere.
But Bayer Aspirin should have similar effect and you can get it here. I just love my Aspor now, the effervescence seems to have a soothing effect...

I suggest you have an evaluation by a neurologist, not just a GP. After being told for years he had migraines, my father found out he had cluster headaches which are slightly different. Once it was diagnosed properly the treatment could be more specific (and effective). He got relief from sleeping under oxygen at night and some new medicines (one that you bite when you are getting an attack). To diagnose it, the neurologist wanted to examine my father during the midst of an attack, and I think they put some electrodes on his head. In your case the neurologist could also rule out the scarey things and give you reassurance. This is just an aside, but often just before I come down with a debilitating headache, I notice a bit of change in the way I feel. Hard to describe, but I often find that I feel a bit dehydrated. If I drink a great big glass of water before the headache really sets in, it will make my head throb worse immediately, but it seems to cut the duration and severity of the headache in the long run. It also helps me to put an ice pack on the back of my neck and lay on it, for some reason. Nobody has ever told me to do this, I just figured out it helps me. Since it's non-invasive, you might try it if nothing else is working.

As with Meiquoren, I also get a dehydrated feeling (also a kind of "floating" feeling), if i am out and can't get to water quickly enough, these will be the worst of my headaches.
But a lot of the time now I can tell when I might be in a condition to get one, I wake up still sleepy and feeling poorly. When this happens I try to avoid going out in the heat and running around like mad, drink lots of water, etc. It helps I'm sure.
