Children and Molluscum Contagiosum

I'd like to ask if any one has come across Molluscum Contagiosum affecting children. My son started having little 'pimples' (with a white core at the centre) on his body and they are spreading out. The dermatologist told us it is Molluscum Contagiosum, a common condition but which is difficult to treat. He has proposed to scoop out the pimples one by one and advised that it might be painful, depending on how deep are the roots. I am quite reluctant to put my 7-yr old son through this process.

Has any one of you encountered the same condition and how did you treat it? Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Both my children have had Molluscum Contagiosum. I was told by our doctor in the UK that there is no cure for it, they will disappear after a while. After abouth 6 months, I consulted a GP who was also a homeopath. She prescribed my 2 daughters different remedies and they seemed to work after about a month. I'm not sure if it was the homeopathic medicine or that they would have gone anyway, but it is worth a try. The spots have not left any scars. I would be worried about having them scooped out as that must surely leave scars.

Thanks ABCGG, I'm also worried about possible scars. May I ask which homeopathic medicine you used and where may I get them? Did you consult the GP in HK? I would like to give it a try. It probably was the medicine which made them disappear as MC is very unlikely to be cured within 6 or 7 months. Thanks again.

Unfortunately, the GP I consulted was in the UK as well. The homeopathic medicine prescribed will depend on the child (weight, build, food dislikes/likes, personality etc.). You would need to see a homeopath to decide what is best for your child. I think one of my daughters had sulphur, but I can't remember the other one. I just had a look on a website called www.healthinasia.com and they mention a new treatment for Molluscum Contagiosum in their Children's section (under skin things).

my son is 7yrs old and had 7 scooped out about 1 3 weeks ago. He also had one scooped out 7 months ago but they came back gradually over time.

My son had them between the age of 7 and 9 and they disappeared as quickly as they appeared. Leave well alone.

My daughter had a severe case last year. The third doctor we went to (dermatologist) froze the buggers off one by one just as one would do to a wart. She went back every couple weeks for a month to freeze off any new ones that popped up. The treatment worked brilliantly and she has no scars. We tried the wait and see approach and herbal remedies for six months prior to finding this dermatologist. In that time, the molluscum spread vigorously.

How old is your daughter? I've been told the treatment can be painful. Was it?
