So tired

Since student days of two decades ago, I’ve suffered continual bouts of

fatigue. Sometimes these last just a day or two. Other times a full week.

The main symptom is a feeling of utter lethargy: dcoing anything is

wearisome. Usually there’s a hint of fever, swollen glands, a little

soreness in the throat. I become depressed; decision making and clear

thinking become impaired. Often I could doze the entire day drifting in and

out of heavy dreams. Usually though I end up forcing myself through work

and the daily round.

I’ve read accounts of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. In many respects, my

malaise seems like a milder version of what usually classifies as CFS.

Otherwise I’m in good health. I’ve seen many doctors and had all the

obvious tests over the years — blood, urine, liver and kidney functions,

viral count etc. According to these I’m in good. I don’t smoke, or drink

excessively. I exercise regularly and eat a good balanced diet.

The only pattern I can detect is that when I push myself hard, I’m more

prone to a lethargy attack. However, even when I’m taking life easy, I

still get smitten.

Today, is yet another day when I feel like I’m running on 25% of my usual

energy. I’m now considering going to a traditional Chinese doctor to see if

they can find any deep imbalance.

Any suggestions?

Dear Spank Me

having looked at all your emails, I think there is only one conclusion to

draw. You are a pernicious idiot. Please do us all a favour and disappear.

Many thanks for the replies.

The blood sugar suggestion is interesting. However, I've had numerous

blood tests and they have never revealed a blood sugar imbalance. Also

would this affect me for up to a week? I thought blood sugar problems

tended to come and go over a few hours.

As for water, I conscientiously drink many glasses daily
