We are considering a trip for a week in the Cameron Highlands this summer in August. We would like to hear from anybody here that may have recommendations for a decent boutique type of hotel in Tana Rata along with their favorite hikes there.

The Cameron Highlands are must see in Malaysia that are especially known for tea plantations and stunning scenery. Driving up to Cameron Highlands is a nice idea to see and explore the interesting stops coming along the way. It is worth to rent a car to see the spectacular views of the highland forests as public transportation don’t give you that much flexibility to take breaks wherever you want. http://www.carsrentalmalaysia.com this is a nice site to compare and check decently priced car hire deals from variety of suppliers.

Cameron Highland is a nice place for you to spend time esp for tea lovers. However it's not as cold as it use to be, due to over developing for commercial reason. Why not try Equatorial coz it's located at the highest point among all the other hotels (slightly above Brinchang).
Of course in terms of boutique type hotel, The Smokehouse & The Lakehouse is still the best.
