Reasonably priced squid

I used to buy deep frozen Japanese squid at Taste. $16-20 for one squid and great flavour. However since the Japanese disasters, that has vanished from shops. All I find now is squid from China (no thanks) or hideously expensive from Italy (at Great).

Looking for leads on reasonably priced squid (deep frozen or fresh) that is sourced from somewhere other than China.

try pacific gourmet, but might fail on the 'reasonable priced' test

get a rod reel light line and lures, start casting from any pier in the sai kung area day or night and catch your own. I take my boat out most weekends (not now injured and stuck at home) and usually take home about 8-10 lbs of freshest squid from 1/2-3 lbs each

Every wet market has it most days. Fresh from the sea.

I am wary of local catch given the polluted waters. Paranoid? Yes perhaps.

not outin Sai Kung. most market squid are caught by big sqiudding boats that go 200 km off shore to the continental drop off. See them every time we go out there fishing. Gin clear cobalt water with viz of well over 100 ft

Ah thank. I did not know they were caught so far off. In that case, I suppose I'm off to the wet market! :)
