I met 4 people yday at the test center who all had been failed in either part b or c of the road test....and all of them have been driven before in other countries so was a bit surprised by the statistics...one of them hinted that seldom is someone passed in the first attempt hence wondering..

All of my son's friends have taken their driving test for the first time over the past few months. Most of them passed on their first attempt. I guess it depends on how good a driver you are on the day.

I have heard it is not difficult, and honestly, when you see how some people drive around here I am not surprised. (no use of indicator.. always drive in fast lane even when way under the speed limit..never look in their mirror...)

I took my test and passed about a year and a half ago after not having driven for @ 20 years moving here from the States. Driving on the wrong side of the road and car was on thing to get accustomed to but only one swish into a parallel parking spot during the test I thought was a bit OTT to pass the test, because as in real life it may take inching it in a bit of back and forth to get it in properly (ask any lady).

I had my drivers license in Canada and US for about 20 years. My license expired whilst I was in Hong Kong and not driving and by the time I got around to it, it was too late to get it replaced without a test. So I had to get a "new" HK drivers license. I passed my written test in first go. I passed my road test in first go (quite amazing given I really had never driven on 'wrong side' of road and had my driving test at midday when traffic was nuts). I passed my 3-point turn and hill-start on first go - but missed the parallel parking by inches. It took me FOUR TIMES taking part B to pass the bloody parallel parking. It has been awhile but I do not recall my original drivers license test in Canada - when I was 16 - having to parallel park in one 'swish' as another post said...and into such a small bloody space. I also wish they would let you have two chances at the parking in the test. Because the biggest problem was it took 2+ months to reschedule the test so all up it took me more than one year to get my HK license.... And by the time I did, some rules had changed and I found out the HK license is NOT inter-changeable in almost every western country - ie you can't swap it for a Canadian license (any province), US licenses (any state), Aussie (any state) or UK...so I'm going to be buggered when I leave HK and move back to Canada or the US. Not only do you need to pass the test again (in Canada), you are put on the "new" probabationary system..I'll be a 45 year-old on probation / P-plates. My advice: if you have an existing license from Canada, US, UK, Aus, etc. - even if you are not driving while living in HK, keep the license updated and renew it as soon as it expires...

i passed my written and road test in the first attempt but it was difficult i had to take 23 hours of driving practice lessons because i was a zero beginner. It is all luck actually if you do one serious mistake you fail (shoulder check, passing the line on the lights,, ) parking ,three point turn hill start not too bad. i guess the best thing to do is also to practice just before the test at least for an hour.
