Hey guys, finally I ll be making my way to work in hong kong this week. I was advised to apply for a hong smart id card. is this card the same as hong kong permenent resident id card?
I am on a 18 month work contract, n i m pretty sure i can apply for a id card when i arrive hk, does that mean I will get subsidised when i visit the public hospitals?
Thanx

If you are here on a work visa you must get a Hong Kong ID card. I don't know about "smart". Never heard the term.
AFAIK You will be able to use public health care at the same cost as a permanent resident or citizen.

Yes adickt so long as you hold a HKID you will get the cheap hospital rates.

Yep, cheap hosipiatl rates as long as you are living here and have a HK ID. So no problem for you.

@Bruce98: The 0% tax for the low-income earners keeps labour cheap, from which you benefit through cheap services and goods. Low taxes, poor labour laws and little red tape benefits the economy. It is a boon to the (higher) educated, but it is a hardship to the lower class. Some things in life are not a choice in HK unfortunately; it is very hard to escape your environment here. Subsidised healthcare is a form of involuntary monetary charity by the rich. A very small monetary price to pay, compared to the human price paid by the lower class here in HK, if you ask me.

Bruce98 - so on the same basis only HK tax payers should be able to use public transport ?
