Are there any quiet public places in Hong Kong?

Hi. In other countries I could find a quiet pubic place to read a book or write the term papers easily. However, in HK, everywhere seems to be very noisy. I found it disturbing that people talk very loudly in public area. Wearing one of the best sound isolation earplugs does not help. Sometimes there are quiet and noisy areas in the cafe. Quite often, newcomers choose the quiet area and then turn the quiet area into a noisy area as well. Some of them even get angry if you look at them to hint that they are disturbing other people. Are there quiet public areas in the city?

I know this is obviously not in the city, but have you considered going on a hike around HK? or catching a ferry to somewhere like mui wo? It has a beautiful beach and would be perfect place to sit and read a book.

Thanks. The library is a good idea but sometimes I am in the city center (TST for example) all day with no library nearby.

Besides, some library users do talk even there are signs everywhere asking people to be quiet. They don't seem to know that they are bothering other people. (I heard that there are people who think that they can do whatever they like in "public area".) Others just put their phone on the desk. Sometimes I feel having a heart attack when I hear the sudden vibrations from the phones. Ironically, there are also library staff who talk loudly themselves.

Above the MTR TST East station is a playground. Around that area is pretty quiet.

Soho East. A nice area by the harbour that stretches from Shaukeiwan to Tai Koo on HK Island. It's not as quiet as a library but makes for a nice lovely walk by yourself, and you can sit on the benches watching the lovely waters in front of you.

Starbucks next to the arts centre in TST is always "relatively" quiet.. especially the hidden little area to the right of the entrance door...

How about a cafe on 2nd floor in Lai Chi Kok? It is so quiet. My english friend Ben goes there reading books for hours. He said the place is neat and cheap. If interested, send me a message.
