I have not been to Db yet but will go next week to check it out, looking for 3 br rental + maid room if possible.
How much might that run? I have a budget of 20-22k right now, max.
My fear of Db is that it might be expat disney? I.e. kind of soulless and no Chinese character at all? Can you get decent chinese food for example? I am not looking for Mongkok or whatnot in DB-- just dont want expat disney.

Try Park Island. The ferry is faster and cheaper, the facilities are better and the food is more local. The rents are probably the same - if not cheaper. Try going for the A Flat in Block 2. Almost 1,000 sq ft and You'll get 3BR + maid's room + a full sea-view. I used to own one but reluctantly sold in order to move the North Point (school reasons). 20-22k should be enough.

For you budget you could get something, but will have to look around - all depends on the size you want. Most of the realtors are at the main plaza, just have a look around and ask.

I'll look at it but now am more keen on Park Island if the dog feces and lack of resto's aint too harsh, and I can get in budget. Based on other threads it looks do-able.
I'm having a kiddo in the Fall or wouldnt be moving from CB-- love the insane, polluted, 'effing awesome urban life of it.
Have been asking stuff all over these forums and really appreciate the hospitality and information.
