Any local public swimming pool will offer classes. Find one, then call or visit it. Good luck.

I have also tried the local pool clubs, lessons are for kids mostly and those who do want to teach adults are always asking far to much in cash !!!

If you have access to a pool which is relatively safe, you can start to teach yourself.
I did. Start by learning how to float, then put your head under the water, then flip onto your back and do some backstroke - the easiest stroke to learn. When you have done this for a few weeks, then start out doing some dogpaddle. When you are comfortable with that, and able to swim a couple of laps, then start doing the freestyle stroke.
Can be done. You just need to learn how to float, first, you will not sink as long as you do not panic, just a couple of arm strokes/leg strokes will keep you afloat.
Good luck.

Try the YMCA, I don't know about now, but I had swimming lessons there when I was a kid which is about 25 years ago, a lot will have obviously changed, but back then they had classes for adults. They may still do so.

Try SCAA. They do have swimming lessons for adults. And the last time I checked, prices were pretty reasonable.
