My Husband and I have just moved to HK from Oz. I am a qualified primary school teacher and I'm looking for work here but I only want to do relief or supply teaching on a day to day, week to week basis. Does anyone have any ideas how I go about this? I have previously worked in the UK where you could visit an agency and they 'hired' you out for the day/ week, etc. Does anyone know of any such agencies here in HK?

I don't think you need an agency. Just contact the international schools in your area, and apply to be on the supply teacher list.

Check out the ESF - www.esf.edu.hk and get yourself put on their supply teacher list. (pay's about HK$1000 per day)

do I have to complete the 'Qualifications Assessment' with the HK Council for Accrecitation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications? or is it just more paper work?

Isn't $1000/day too little?

Yes, $1000 (HK) does sound too little!!! I have friends working without qualifications who are earning this amount for a days work. Some of these people work for 'English centres' but I would really like to knoe about 'Primary Schools'. Does this mean I go to the International Schools direct like Itxhk said?

$1000-1200 is about right for a supply teacher with no prev. experience here. Some make more, but likely they are experienced int. school teachers already. Yes you can work like a slave at a centre and make the same, but centres have to pay to get people to accept the (often) awful hrs and limited time off.

i am disappointed as my qualification in education is not considered to be at par with hk std as per hk council for accreditation. i am unable to work on supply as a result without teacher reg no.
can u please help and guide how to go about getting on supply teacher job in hk with schools here. pl i need to work to survive here.

I am a supply teacher in Hong Kong and have worked at many international schools for several years. I am quite picky and choosy and I don't need to put myself out there too often.
I have recently started working at German Swiss International School (GSIS) and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff are lovely and really accomodating and helpful. More importantly the students are absolutely delightful !! All students are really enjoyable to teach and are 'top notch' students to work with especially when it takes some time at many schools to build a relationship with students - at GSIS the students meet and greet you with confidence even if you have only taught them once.
Both campuses are very small so you don't feel lost and class sizes are capped at 26 students. The rate is $310/hour and you can called upon to work between 4-10 lessons depending on what is available and how flexible you can be...I find the Head of Primary or Deputy Head like to give you as much notice as they can but may also call you up in the morning.
Y01/Y02 are in Pok Fu Lam (162 Pok Fu Lam Road) and Y03-Y06 are in Wan Chai opposite Morrison Hill Pool (30 Oi Kwan Road).
Contact GSIS careers if you would like to send them your CV - I thoroughly recommend you do it but only if you think you fit their criteria and philosophy: http://mygsis.gsis.edu.hk/careers/jobopenings/
